Téry’s chalet is located at an altitude of 2015 meters and is one of the most famous chalets in the High Tatras. The website topky.sk pointed out that alpine huts have always been perceived as a safe haven, where the doors remained open for exhausted tourists practically continuously.
A notice should also appear on the tables in Téry’s cottage, by which the management forbids the consumption of self-brought food. Rock visitors to alpine huts consider the new restrictions to be a violation of unwritten mountain rules and traditions.
The new regulations at Téry’s cottage caused stormy reactions on social networks. Most of the discussants point out that alpine huts were created as a refuge from bad weather and a place of first aid, not as commercial hotels. “The cottages have always been open 24 hours a day. That’s why they are cottages,” pointed out Ondrej.
Among the discussants, however, there were also tourists who stated that they visited Téry’s cottage outside of the designated opening hours and that the staff served them without problems and willingly. Therefore, they believe that the publication of the opening hours is only formal and in case of emergency the staff will not leave anyone outside.
There is a limitation in serving food
The management of Téry cottage responded to the criticism by declaring that the cottage is open non-stop. “In case of need and emergency, you can get in at any time of the night and we will certainly take care of you. We just don’t cook at night,” said Téry’s cottage management on Facebook.
The new operator of Téry’s cottage, Júlia Viktória Imriščáková, additionally explained that it was a misunderstanding and a misunderstanding of the original announcement.
“The stated time strictly applies only to the provision of restaurant services and the buffet. It indicates the time when tourists can buy food or drinks. The cottage remains open non-stop, we do not lock the doors,” the website aktuality.sk quotes her as saying.
Imriščáková explains that the marking of opening hours was required by new legislation.
