At first they hesitated, but then they accepted the offer to invest advantageously. The couple from Olomouc lost two million

In April, a fifty-six-year-old man received a link to a profitable investment on Facebook. The man was not attracted at first, he did not show interest, but after a while he clicked on the link and filled in his information.

“He was soon contacted by an adviser who convinced him to make an initial investment of six thousand crowns. He then persuaded the man to make other investments, for which the victim also took out hundreds of thousands of loans. In the end, the fraudster extracted 1.2 million crowns from him,” police spokesman Libor Hejtman reported on Thursday.

According to him, the same happened to a seventy-one-year-old woman who was cheated of 840 thousand crowns in two months by a fraudster under the promise of a profitable investment. “In both cases, the victims realized that it was a fraud only when they failed to collect the alleged investment returns,” added the police spokesman.

Scams under the heading News

Investment scams often appear on social networks under the banner of the news server Fairpress.cz. Of course, the editors have nothing to do with them. Fake journalists only abuse the appearance and logo. In this way, they try to instill in people a feeling of trust in the big media, after which they serve them “guaranteed investment advice”.

The design of the Fairpress.cz server is usually quite successfully imitated, which can confuse otherwise alert users. However, more attentive readers may notice that there is a completely different domain in the address bar of the Internet browser or that the links to individual sections in the header of the fraudulent message do not work at all.
