A new wave of intense storms is rolling into the Czech Republic from Saxony. The storm is currently raging in Děčínsk, Českolipsk, Frýdlantsk and Liberec. Storms are accompanied not only by strong winds, but also by hail and downpours, meteorologists warn.
Thunderstorms passed through central Bohemia already in the early afternoon and kept firefighters busy. From 15:00 to 17:00, firefighters in the region recorded 92 incidents. “There were 61 of them in Příbramsk alone,” said regional fire department spokesman Jan Sýkora.
In the South Bohemian Region, firefighters went out about thirty times in the last hour. “Písecko was the most affected, where we recorded several incidents of water flooding and fallen trees. Both professional units and volunteer firefighters intervened,” said fire department spokesman Roman Krčmář.

Strong storms with downpours also affected the South Bohemian Region.
Another band of strong storms is advancing from Písecko and Táborsk to the southeast to the south, another is advancing in the same direction through Šumava and another is currently intensifying in the Kolín region.
The first level warning against the possible occurrence of strong thunderstorms is valid from 13:00 to 23:00 and concerns the entire territory of the Czech Republic. In thunderstorms, torrential rainfall with totals of around 40 mm, hail and wind gusts of around 75 km/h may occur.
In the inflow of warm and moist air, there will be a sufficient amount of energy for outgoing movements, which will lead to the formation of local thunderstorms. Due to the lower wind shear, i.e. the difference in wind direction and speed at different heights, storms will progress more slowly and can thus bring high precipitation totals.
Despite the fact that the warning applies throughout the country, there will be fewer storms towards Saturday and they will prefer places with better conditions for their development, initially especially in mountainous areas and locations with convergence of the surface wind field.
“In Moravia, we expect the development of storms in the late afternoon hours and the probability of dangerous phenomena is less,” commented the situation of the ČHMÚ on social networks.
