In Lipno, cyanobacteria are dangerous for dogs

So far, however, scientists have not confirmed that these dogs were poisoned by benthic cyanobacteria. Hydrobiologist Petr Znachor mentioned the occurrence of benthic cyanobacteria. “Unfortunately, these cyanobacteria can produce toxic substances that have caused the deaths of dogs abroad,” Znachor told Novinkám.

He pointed out that these cyanobacteria are not dangerous for people who can swim in the water without problems. They are said to be attractive to dogs when they lick the stones they are on.

According to hygienists, the water quality in Lipno is good for swimming, but they do not judge the benthic cyanobacteria. These should be in some places in the tank. Hydrobiologists are also investigating the connection with the death of dogs in Lipno.

The police who are dealing with the death of two jack russel terriers have already received an opinion from hydrobiologists. Their death after a walk near Lipno nad Vltavou was reported by the owner in May. She suspects that cyanobacteria are to blame for everything.

“We are still working on the case. We assume that we could close it within two to three weeks,” assured the spokesperson of the Český Krumlov police, Miroslav Šupík.

The news also managed to obtain testimony about the death of two other dogs that the owners were walking in Radslav.

“The female retriever Zarynka passed away last week on Wednesday. It was very fast. She had something like an epileptic seizure. Another female Liesie then died on Sunday after the same course,” Michael Šimánková previously described to Novinka about the deaths of dogs from close friends near Lipno.
