In the Russian city Minusink, journalist Dmitry Popkov, who reported on police corruption, has been killed, the Moscow Times reported today.

He was a 42 year old journalist and editor-in-chief of the local newspaper Ton-M. The journalist was shot several times, police stated.

The newspaper he worked for published stories under the slogan “We write what other people stay silent about” and it had already previously fallen victim to government pressure and police raids, Russia’s Khakasiya news agency reported.

This isn’t the first murder case of journalists in Russia this year. In April this year, journalist Nikolai Andrushchenko was killed; he was beaten up by attackers who are still unknown.
